Bootleg Blondie
Saturday 27th April 2019, 8:00pm
All Tickets £17.50*

BOOTLEG BLONDIE is the official Debbie Harry & Blondie tribute band and the only Blondie tribute to play the legendary CBGBs in New York City before its demise in 2006. CBGB was the Holy Grail of American Punk and New Wave, where the real Blondie first kicked off their career.

Debbie Harris and Bootleg Blondie have played the Isle Of Wight Festival, the 100 Club, the Hammersmith Palais and the Electric Ballroom in London, Eric’s in Liverpool and have opened up for amongst others The Undertones, Slade, Bad Manners, The Beat, Heaven 17, Toyah, Hazel O’Connor, Visage, Bananarama, Altered Images, Howard Jones, Chas and Dave, Tony Hadley and can be seen at all the major venues and festivals around the UK and Europe.

Debbie Harris and the boys have met the REAL Blondie and are officially endorsed by the band. Debbie Harry got in touch in 2006 when she heard we were playing CBGBs in New York City to wish us good luck with our show and when Clem Burke, Blondie’s charismatic drummer, found out that we were making a replica of his Premier drum kit, he arranged for us to meet him to sign our drum kit which we use at all our shows. ‘During the 2010 Blondie tour of the UK we took Clem out for a trip around London in our tour bus, he signed that too!’

In 2014 Clem invited Debbie and Andy to a recording session at the Foo Fighters’ famous 606 Studio in Los Angeles, where they saw Clem and the awesome Neve mixing desk in action!

Debbie and Andy got married in March 2016 and to their great delight received two video messages from both Blondie and Debbie Harry herself congratulating them on their wedding day. What a wedding present!

And probably the best Xmas present in the world ever was in 2016 when Clem Burke came along to a Bootleg Blondie gig and actually got up and played drums on stage with the band! He said afterwards that watching and playing with Bootleg Blondie was very emotional. Well Bootleg Blondie were very touched by Clem’s presence!

In May 2017 Bootleg Blondie had the unbelievable honour of being mentioned on Blondie’s 11th studio album ‘Pollinator’.Debbie Harris, lead vocalist of Bootleg Blondie, has the looks, the voice and the attitude of the original Blondie bombshell and like her heroine is typically outrageous on stage. She has been known to wear dustbin liners, thigh length boots and t-shirts with more holes than t-shirt! Debbie’s pride & joy is her guitar that she plays at every show and is signed by all the Blondie members.

The Legend of Springsteen
Saturday 4th May 2019, 8:00pm
All Tickets £23.50*

The producers of the world renowned Ultimate Eagles bring you their latest concert, celebrating the music of the legend that is Bruce Springsteen!

No one reproduces legendary musical concerts with the accuracy, reverence or skill that “The Legend of Springsteen” brings to the stage. They easily recreate that famous ‘stadium atmosphere’ as they pay homage to one of the greatest singer songwriters of ageneration.

Not a tribute band by any means, this show stars a cast of internationally renowned musicians that have already toured the world with theatre shows and celebrities alike. In the past members have shared stages alongside artists such as Journey, Joe Cocker, Paul Young, Ringo Starr, The Commitments, Go West, Bonnie Tyler, John Legend and many others.

This ‘unstoppable steam train of an experience’ will power through all of the stadium rock classics of “Born in the USA”, “Glory Days” and “Born to Run” and journey on through Springsteen’s massive collection of record breaking hits.

No other show captures that legendary spirit and energy as the Legend of Springsteen take to the stage and welcome you to ‘worship at the alter of The Boss!’

“I’ve seen the future of Nostalgia...”
“I’ve never seen such energy, respect or musicianship on stage!”
“The Whole band really is world class.”

John Coghlan's Quo
Saturday 18th May 2019, 8:00pm
All Tickets £17.50*

John Coghlan joined Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster in their newly-formed band ‘The Spectres’ in 1962. The group went through a series of name changes, before becoming Status Quo in the late 60s when Rick Parfitt joined the line-up. There followed a string of chart-topping hits and albums that included Pictures of Matchstick Men, Paper Plane, Caroline, Down Down, Rockin' All over the World and many more before John left the band in 1981. For Quo fans and critics alike, this time is often regarded as Quo’s “Classic” period.

In 2013 and 2014, John re-joined Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt and Alan Lancaster for two sell-out Status Quo ‘Frantic Four’ Reunion Tours all over the UK and Europe that recaptured the excitement of the ‘Classic’ Quo.

John Coghlan’s Quo can be seen by audiences all over the UK and Europe recreating an authentic “70’s Sound” in keeping with John’s time with Status Quo. Aside from John on Drums, the band features long-term member Mick Hughes on Guitar & Vocals, Rick Chase on Bass Guitar & Vocals and completing the line-up Rick Abbs on Guitar & Vocals.

A typical John Coghlan’s Quo show will always include evergreen ‘classic’ Quo standards but in addition the Set List will often feature rare songs not heard for many years or even on occasion, never before.

One thing you will enjoy is a great night of Quo music as it should be.

Xuefei Yang is acclaimed as one of the world’s finest classical guitarists. Hailed as a musical pioneer - her fascinating journey began after the Cultural Revolution, a period where Western musical instruments & music were banned. Fei was the first-ever guitarist in China to enter a music school, & became the first internationally recognised Chinese guitarist on the world stage.

Her first public appearance was at the age of ten and received such acclaim that the Spanish Ambassador in China presented her with a concert guitar. Her debut in Madrid at the age of 14 was attended by the composer Joaquín Rodrigo and, when John Williams heard her play, he gave two of his own instruments to Beijing’s Central Conservatoire especially for her and other advanced students.

Fei is one of the few guitarists whose artistry connects with audiences far beyond the guitar fraternity. Her international success has led her to be invited to play in more than 50 countries at numerous prestigious venues, and is frequently invited to play with the world’s leading orchestras, & collaborate with artists such as Ian Bostridge, Rosalind Plowright, Sir James Galway.

Gramophone magazine praised her as one of the leading innovators of her generation for continuing to build the guitar repertoire.

Fei has made many acclaimed recordings for major labels. Her first received a gold disc & her second was selected as ‘Editor’s Choice’ in Gramophone magazine. Fei’s recent releases include a solo album “Colours of Brazil,” (Decca Classics) and “Songs from our Ancestors” which continues her successful collaboration with Ian Bostridge.

She has appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Woman's Hour, the BBC Proms, & documentaries on BBC & China Central Television.

The UK classical music magazine, Classic FM, named Fei as one of the 100 top classical musicians of our time.

Firmly positioned as a leading exponent of his instrument, “The hottest guitarist in the world” (Sunday Times), Miloš Karadaglić, continues to top record charts and delight audiences worldwide.

His first three releases on Deutsche Grammophon achieved major chart successes around the globe and turned him into “classical music’s guitar hero” (BBC Music Magazine) overnight. His 2014 recording of Rodrigo’s concertos had the Sunday Times calling him “The King of Aranjuez”, while “Blackbird - The Beatles Album” (2016) was received with unanimous acclaim.

Miloš has appeared in recital at almost all major concert halls and festivals around the globe and has worked with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors. He is also the first ever classical guitarist to have performed in solo recital at the Royal Albert Hall in London, The Guardian commenting: “More extraordinary by far, however, was the way a single guitarist... could shrink the Hall’s cavernous space into something so close.” The Independent concluded: “... a sleight of hand that makes Karadaglić not only a magician, but a serious and accomplished musician”.

The Manchester Acoustic Blues Festival
Sunday 2nd June 2019, 6:00pm
All Tickets £11.50*

The Manchester Acoustic Blues Festival has run as part of the independent Manchester Biennial Arts celebration since 2013. Most often referred to as ‘MABS Fest’ the event established itself as one of the UK’s leading roots and acoustic events attracting performers from all over the world. Due to the dreadful terror attack in May 2017 the event was postponed and later held outside the City at a different venue later that year.

For 2019 in a collaboration with Floral Pavilion New Brighton the event will run as a one day event as part of the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain. MABS Fest continues to showcase a wide cross section of the very best in acoustic blues music in Britain today.

BEX MARSHALL was voted Best Female Solo Acoustic Artist in the European Blues Awards 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 as well as Best Female Vocalist and Album of the Year in British Blues Awards 2013. Bex toured with Big Brother and the Holding Company on the last UK tour as the voice of Janis Joplin and has just finished her fourth 30 date US tour. She will also be touring Brazil and Australia in 2019 in preparation for her next album release. Her unique style of guitar playing is a combined technique of slide, blues rock with ragtime and roots pickin’. Her voice is a powerful melting pot of heartache and rock diva soul.

“A Guitar playing goddess who sings like an angel, writes like Dylan and smiles like the devil” - Booker T

Over 40 years ago BLUESMAN MIKE FRANCIS began touring Europe with a band that was to later provide a prominent member of Bad Company. Having worked with a number of Soul, Blues & Rock legends including the late Greg Lake, he recently teamed up with lifelong friend, Tina Turner and original Tears for Fears guitarist Neil Taylor to record a ‘new era of blues’ project with the intention of introducing the genre to a whole new generation of followers. A favourite on the European Festival and Blues Cruise circuit Mike was a 2013 finalist in the European Blues Awards.

“Delivers an unmistakable Memphis atmosphere combined with Silicone Valley” - Music Underground Croatia

Now based in Salford DAI THOMAS specialises in Blues and Old Timey from the Acoustic Era, roughly before WW2, played on a battery of fine, old instruments in a multitude of styles. His live performances are powerful and spectacular and his obvious passion for the music continues to delight his audiences far and wide. Dai has featured on many recordings including international best-seller “No Such Place” by David Byrne protégé Jim White and his own CD ‘Songs from the Ragged Backside of the American Dream’ is currently available.

Eric Bell - The 50th Anniversary Tour
Thursday 6th June 2019, 7:30pm
All Tickets £17.50

In 1969 Eric Bell walked into a bar in Dublin, ordered a pint and settled down to watch a band play. Two of the members of that band were Brian Downey and Phil Lynott. He was knocked out by what he saw and heard and asked them to form a band with him. Both duly obliged and within weeks Thin Lizzy was born. The three of them worked very hard both in the studio and on the road and were eventually rewarded with a hit single, the anthemic - Whiskey In The Jar - which catapulted them into world wide recognition. Their new found popularity kept them very busy. There was a lot of pressure, both touring and recording and eventually Eric conceded that, health wise it was a bit too much for him to handle and left the band.

Noel Redding, bass player to Jimi Hendrix, befriended Eric and they were soon recording and touring together through Europe and America. In the late seventies Bo Diddley came to the UK to tour and asked Eric, who else, to play guitar with him.

Eric eventually decided to forge a solo career, playing in his favourite 3 piece format and has over the years recorded a host of albums both live and studio and most recently has recorded two highly acclaimed albums, Exile and Standing At A Bus Stop. Both albums contain songs that have been laying dormant for a number of years and have now been given a well deserved airing.

2019 is the 50th anniversary of Thin Lizzy and Eric will celebrate this landmark the way he likes best, playing live in as many towns and cities as possible. He brings with him two musicians who are also no slouches when it comes to recording and touring; Dave Wintour on bass and Romek Parol on drums, who, between them, have a client list that looks like a who's who of the rock'n'roll world. Eric will work his way through a playlist of songs that takes him from early days and influences, through his "Lizzy" days, through his back catalogue and right up to the present day.

The evening will be full of surprises as no two nights are ever the same…

"Lindisfarne where the real surprise package for me at this year's Towersey Festival. Not being of their generation I had been unsure of just how they would go down, but they stormed it. Consummate professionals and great musicians, they surprised me with just how many of their great songs I knew and those that I didn't felt familiar. Wonderful stage presence and rapport with the Audience; who I should say came in droves to see them. A no- brainer booking for me. One of this year’s festival highlights."

Thursday 29th August to Sunday 1st September 2019, 7:30pm

Tickets £18.50* (£16.50* conc)

Wirral writer Brian McCann’s Down Our Street is the musical play celebrating the life and times of Cammell Laird, from the industrial revolution to the present day. For well over a century and a half, ‘The Yard’ was the employer of thousands upon thousands of people from, the Wirral, across the water in Liverpool and beyond. The town of Birkenhead was built around the Shipbuilding industry and most families, if not all had some connection to Cammell Laird. Through drama, comedy and song, Down Our Street celebrates this through the eyes of the people of Merseyside and the workers ‘down the yard’.

The show, once described in the media as ‘Birkenhead’s Les Miserables’ has had several outings, the last being here at the Floral Pavilion in 2017, which enjoyed packed houses and audiences leaving the theatre singing! This new production has a revised Act 2, bringing the Cammell Laird story right up to date.

"Down Our Street is a triumph of belief and sincere honesty and a wonderfully funny, enlightening, educational and sometimes heart-breaking musical" - Ian D. Hall, Liverpool Sound and Vision

Karen was the voice of the multi-hit making group The Carpenters who along with her brother Richard, scored an unprecedented 17 consecutive billboard US top ten hits. The timeless quality of the Carpenters music makes it as relevant today as when they scored their first UK hit with Close to you in 1970.

Now for the very first time in over 30 years the voice that melted a thousand romantic hearts lives again through Toni Lee, in this 2-hour touring concert show “We’ve Only Just Begun, the Carpenters Greatest Love Songs”.

We’ve Only Just Begun” is a celebration of the Carpenter’s music and the spirit of Karen Carpenter. Every song in the show is a chart hit, brilliantly performed by vocalist Toni Lee, with her Big Band and singers. This high quality production includes an audio visual presentation.

Shylock
Sunday 22nd September 2019, 7:30pm
Tickets £15.00 (£13.00 conc)

Winner of best touring production – Wales theatre awards 2018

"Shylock deserves to be packed out every show. It reflects the deepest love and understanding of Shakespeare's genius, and mixes us adeptly into the problems, pressures, traditions, censors prejudices and passions of Elizabethan theatre."(The Scotsman)
"Innovative, delightful, exceptional!"(The Independent)

A new one man play from the team that brought you Burton and Dylan Thomas: Clown in the Moon. -

'The tragic, funny and often unbelievable life of fiction's most famous Jew'.

Is Shylock the Jewish moneylender from The Merchant of Venice a villain or victim?

He has been portrayed in ways which reflected how Jews were popularly viewed - from comic villain in Shakespeare's day to a victim of racial discrimination nowadays. Gareth Armstrong's award winning solo play confronts these Jewish stereotypes through the eyes of his only friend - and the only other Jewish man in the whole of Shakespeare - Tubal. Promoted to centre stage from his minor role in The Merchant of Venice, he proves a born comic storyteller.

Celebrating the richness of Shakespeare's language and conjuring up a whole cast of characters from Portia to Pontius Pilate, from Romeo to Max Reinhardt, and from Barabbas to Richard Burbage, this dazzling, moving, often hilarious play is a fascinating exploration of Shylock and his people.

Written and Directed by Gareth Armstrong
Performed by Rhodri Miles
SHYLOCK runs 90 minutes and plays with an interval.

Ruby Wax - How To Be Human
Wednesday 9th October 2019, 7:30pm
All Tickets £23.75

Based on her bestselling book, Ruby’s new show How To Be Human answers every question you've ever had about evolution, thoughts, emotions, the body, addictions, relationships, sex, kids, the future and compassion.

We can’t stop the future from arriving, no matter what drugs we’re on. But even if nearly every part of us becomes robotic, mechanical fingers crossed we’ll still have our minds. Hopefully we’ll use them for things like compassion, instead of just chasing what’s ‘better’ like a hamster on a wheel. If we can do that, we’re on the yellow brick road to happiness.

This show is the follow up to Ruby’s sell out shows Sane New World and Frazzled and incorporates what she discovered whilst writing her latest book, including finding out about how the mind works with monk Gelong Thubten and learning from neuroscientist Ash Ranpura where everything that makes us ‘us’ can be found in the brain.

Outrageously witty and smart, blending brilliant comedy and insightful life lessons, How To Be Human is the show you need to help you upgrade your mind as much as you’ve upgraded your iPhone.

Count Arthur Strong - Is There Anybody Out There?
Saturday 19th October 2019, 8:00pm

As well as being the all-round entertainer we all know and love from the telly, Count Arthur Strong is also a lifelong fan of astronomy, since having been given a microscope, or whatever it is they use, for Christmas when he was a small precocious baby. In fact, it’s said the first word he spoke was ‘Uranus’. In this, his brand-new show, he seamlessly combines the very best showbiz entertainment you’ll currently find, in the world, possibly? as he wrestles with some of the big questions that other all-round entertainers shy away from. Such as:

Are we alone in the universe?
Is there life on Mars bars?
2lbs of potatoes.
Packet of ginger nuts.
Don’t lose this shopping list.

‘Do not miss this not to be missed type of thing! If I wasn’t in the show I’d definitely be in the audience watching myself intently. Laughing and learning in equal measure. Thoroughly happy to pay the admission fee and definitely not asking for a refund. Also not rustling sweet wrappers and fiddling with my sodding telephone with a gormless expression on my face. See you there!’. Arthur

“The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she is treated.”

Professor Henry Higgins makes a wager that he can raise a lowly Cockney flower girl—Eliza Doolittle—to the status of a high-society debutante in Lerner and Loewe's hit musical, My Fair Lady. Based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play, Pygmalion, My Fair Lady plays as powerfully for modern-day audiences as it did in the original 1956 Broadway production. Eliza's transformation illuminates society's prejudices, the gender divide and personal identity. Featuring much loved songs such as ‘On the Street Where You Live’, ‘With A Little Bit of Luck’ and ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’, My Fair Lady has been described as ‘wise, witty and winning’, ‘a work of theatre magic’ and ‘an irresistible hit’.

Tony Stockwell, Psychic Medium
Wednesday 20th November 2019, 7:30pm
Tickets FRONT £23.75 REAR £19.75

Remarkably compelling, amazingly detailed and always humorous.

The popular star of TV’s Street Psychic, Psychic Private Eyes and Psychic Academy, Tony Stockwell has a long established credibility as one of the top Intuitive Mediums and has shared the stage all round the world with international mediums such as Colin Fry, James van Praagh and Lisa Williams. Tony demonstrates his belief that those who have passed can communicate with their loved ones with detailed messages frequently including names, dates and locations and all delivered with emotion, sensitivity and empathy. The evening may include psychometry, photographs readings and psychic prediction.

Recent legislative guidelines insist that any Evening of Mediumship should be billed ‘for entertainment purposes’. Tony certainly uses his natural wit, showmanship and Cockney charisma to entertain but more important, Mediumship has the potential to change someone’s life and instil in them a sense of peace, comfort and purpose. We hope that nobody can fail to come away untouched by the experience.

The show is investigational and for the purpose of entertainment.

Band of Gold was the ground-breaking crime drama that captivated over 15 million viewers each week when it aired on ITV. This nail-biting murderous thriller revolves around a group of women – Carol, Rose, Anita and Gina – as they battle to survive whilst working in a notorious red-light district.

“I get asked once a day if I’m going to bring Band of Gold back.” says award-winning writer and director Mellor: “My answer will now be yes, on stage, and after the amazing response we had to Fat Friends, I’m thrilled that the world premiere production of Band Of Gold will be coming to Liverpool.”

Don’t miss your chance to be one of the first to see the world premiere production of Kay Mellor’s incredible, thrilling new play.

THE UK PREMIERE TOUR OF

HELEN FORRESTER’S
BY THE WATERS OF LIVERPOOL

Adapted by ROB FENNAH / Directed by GARETH TUDOR PRICE

Adapted from the million-selling book, By The Waters Of Liverpool is a period drama set in the 1930s. The story opens in 1935. Helen Forrester is sixteen years old and fighting a bitter battle with her parents for the right to educate herself and go out to work. During the Great Depression, Helen’s father lost his fortune when the stock market crashed and the family were suddenly thrown into poverty. Leaving behind the nannies, servants and comfortable middle-class life in the South West of England, the Forrester’s chose Liverpool as the place to start over. They were in for a terrible shock. Taken out of school to care for her younger brothers and sisters while her parents struggled to re-build their shattered lives, Helen is treated as an unpaid slave and desperate to escape. By 1939, now aged twenty and with Britain on the brink of war, she has never been kissed by a man. But things start looking up for Helen when she meets a tall strong seaman and falls in love.

“By The Waters Of Liverpool also features flashbacks to Helen’s first two volumes of autobiography; Twopence To Cross The Mersey and Liverpool Miss, so newcomers to Helen’s story will get a complete picture of her life”.
Rob Fennah ~ Playwright and friend of Helen Forrester.
