The Russian State Ballet and Opera House presents Sleeping Beauty
Rescheduled from Wed 11th Nov 2020
Tickets £36.00 (£34.00 conc)
The Russian State Ballet and Opera House presents
Sleeping Beauty – a spectacular fairy-tale
Every child’s favourite fairy-tale, Sleeping Beauty is the classic story of love and innocence, mystery and magic set to Tchaikovsky’s sublime score.
Featuring a live Orchestra with over 30 musicians, stunning choreography, sumptuous costumes and wonderful sets form the fantasy world in which the Lilac Fairy struggles against the evil Carabosse. The outline is based on the fairy-tale by Charles Perrault and tells the story of the Princess Aurora, cursed at her christening by the evil Carabosse to prick her finger one day on a spindle and die.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the Lilac Fairy, she doesn’t die, but sleeps for a hundred years. Woken by a prince, who has battled through the Enchanted Forest to reach her, they marry at a ceremony attended by nursery rhyme characters like Puss in Boots and all the other forest creatures.
There are no scores more successful in supporting the full range of ballet than those by Tchaikovsky.
Highlights include the Famous ‘Rose Adagio’ when Princess Aurora is introduced to four princes. This ravishing production of the Sleeping Beauty is certain to leave you refreshed, relaxed and alert. It shimmers like an exquisite dream.
Sleeping Beauty is a ballet that the whole family can enjoy!
"A superb performance which lived up to the mystery of the charming Russian classic" – The Argus

UPDATE: TUESDAY 17 MARCH
Floral Pavilion Theatre to close temporarily
Following the Prime Minister’s statement on Monday 16 March, advising people to avoid non-essential contact with others including visits to theatres as part of measures to tackle the coronavirus, the Floral Pavilion theatre is to be closed with immediate effect from today, Tuesday March 17.
The temporary closure of the theatre in New Brighton is part of the Council’s wider preparations to focus resources and staff on to the most critical services relied upon by residents.
Please can we ask that you not contact the box office regarding tickets you may have purchased. We will contact customers with information regarding all performances in the coming weeks. Hopefully the majority of performances will be rescheduled but where this is not possible we will be organising a full refund.
Cabinet member for community services, Cllr Julie McManus, said:
“It is crucial that we ensure our most vital services are able to continue, and this is one of the first steps we will be taking.
"The coming weeks and months are going to be difficult for everyone, and we are all going to have to work in different ways and adapt. We are also going to have to take into account the likelihood that many staff will be affected by the virus either directly or having to self isolate because a family members is showing symptoms.
"We apologise for the disruption and uncertainty but the health and safety of our audiences, staff and visiting companies is our first priority. We will be posting further statements over the coming days so please check our website and social media as we are unsure how long these measures will need to last.
"Thank you for your support during this difficult time and we will update you when further information is available to us."

Michael King's 'On Tour With Elvis' is without doubt the UK's authoritative touring Elvis show.
An exciting Vegas show filled with Elvis' greatest hits and more delivered live in true Elvis style. This is a night of pure breath-taking Elvis entertainment plus the best Elvis sound you will hear!
Michael is the only UK Elvis performer to have received the 'Las Vegas Elvis Icon Award' for his performances there with Elvis' very own Jordanaires.
David Stanley, Elvis' step-brother and bodyguard said:
"Michael King has the moves, the look and the voice. I saw Elvis in concert over 1000 times and watching Michael is nothing short of spooky"
Authenticity is of paramount importance in the show from the fantastic arrangements performed by what must be the best set of Elvis musicians to the authentic jumpsuits made for Michael in the USA from the exact same original patterns used for Elvis' own stage wear.
Michael King's 'On Tour With Elvis' is without question one of the most powerful and authentic Elvis shows ever seen. Regarded by many in the business as the premier live Elvis tribute show in the U.K.
Michael manages to re-create and re-capture the essence and the power of an Elvis performance in a way many can only dream of. If you only get to see one Elvis show this year, then Michael King's 'On Tour With Elvis' show is the one not to be missed.

The ELO Show - The World's greatest tribute to the music and Genius of Jeff Lynne and ELO
Local and international musician Brian Cummins brings his brand-new show celebrating the music of Jeff Lynne and E.L.O. with a band of amazing musicians including a female string section this will be a fabulous night of hit after hit from such a vast back catalogue.
Jeff Lynne and ELO famously carried on the legacy of the Beatles where in his own words he wanted to "Carry on from where I am the Walrus left off' and combined Classical music with motifs of the greats with Rock and Roll like no other musician before. The album 'Out of the Blue' released in 1977 catapulted them into Rock history and truly made them one of the biggest bands in the World at the time.
After many years of touring Jeff parted ways with the band to focus on producing some of the greatest musicians of the time namely, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Paul McCartney and The Beatles.
Jeff resurrected the ELO legacy in 2014 with a new line-up and a stunning stage show and has been touring the World Arenas and stadiums to this day.
The ELO SHOW has a stunning lightshow and 3D video screens very similar to Jeff's current backdrop.
Expect songs like, 'Evil Woman', Don't bring me down', 'Telephone Line', 'Sweet Talkin Woman', 'Turn to stone', 'Wild west Hero', 'The Diary of Horace Wimp' and of course the legendary 'Mr. Blue Sky' plus many more with a surprise or two.
Don't miss out on this fantastic night of nostalgia and classic tunes.

"Everybody loves and respects Kate Rusby, not just for her lovely voice, but for the way she has moved folk forward while remaining true to tradition..." Sunday Times
"...exquisite interpretations of traditional material from the pocket sized folk singer with the heartbreakingly tremulous voice and bawdy Yorkshire wit" Daily Telegraph
Of all the stars in folk music’s wondrous firmament few shine as brightly as Yorkshire’s Kate Rusby. A remarkable interpretive singer, Kate's soulful vocals resonate with the wistful beauty of an earthbound angel. Inhabiting a lyric with unforced conviction, no matter how old or how modern, she has that rare ability to transport her audience, of touching them emotionally and making each tune live vividly within their experience and imagination.
Audiences are sure to be thoroughly entertained by Kate’s choice of much-loved classics from her back catalogue stretching over two decades of music-making, together with a selection of fresh new songs from her new album release of May 2019.
As ever, she will be joined on stage by the cream of British folk musicians who form her band. These virtuoso artists are sure to delight you with their exceptional talents.
Damien O’Kane on guitar, electric tenor guitar and banjo
Duncan Lyall on double bass and moog
Nick Cooke on diatonic accordion
Steve Byrnes on bouzouki and guitar
The crossover appeal Kate enjoys is unprecedented for a folk singer and has been achieved without resort to compromise. Rusby’s wondrous singing and hugely engaging Yorkshire wit and the intuitive support of the band ensure that audiences are treated to a truly remarkable and unforgettable concert experience.
