A player of immense world stature, he is a vibrant interpreter of blues, ragtime and gospel music. Mann is also known as the foremost blues guitar instructional guru and as a gifted composer.

The workshop will provide an overview of the rich tradition of country blues guitar styles and focus on practical ways to improve your technique. Woody will illustrate ways to develop a swinging picking style and ‘demystify’ the process of improvising within a song. These ideas will be illustrated through the styles and repertoire of the master blues and ragtime artists including Blind Blake, Big Bill Broonzy, Lonnie Johnson, Skip James, Reverend Gary Davis and others.  Woody will also demonstrate how the techniques of traditional country blues can be used as a basis for playing other styles including ragtime, swing, jazz and contemporary sounds. This will be a workshop for guitarists who are looking for new ideas and approaches for fingerstyle guitar.
