Live music from 7.00pm
Floral Pavilion Winter Gardens
The opening night of the 22nd International Guitar Festival of Great Britain
The night begins with pre show music in the Pavilion Bar (Conference Centre).
Then join the Djangonauts, a hard swinging acoustic jazz quartet playing in the Gypsy Jazz style, and local band Modjango for an evening in tribute to Django Reinhardt. The concert has Cabaret style seating in the Floral Pavilion conference centre so enjoy a drink and some food from the bar, relax and enjoy excellent quality music.
The Djangonauts have taken the Northern Jazz circuit by storm having seen sell out crowds at many of their gigs. Their contemporary take on the Gypsy Jazz style, original arrangements and virtuoso technique have delighted audiences throughout the North of England. Their biggest gig to date was at Glastonbury 2010 where they wowed the audience at the Bourbon Street Jazz and Blues venue.
Djangonauts are:
Chris Walker – Guitar
Piero Tucci – Accordion
Phil Johnson – Rhythm Guitar
Kevin Walker – Double Bass
Taking their lead from contemporary gypsy jazz masters such as Birelli Lagrene and Angelo Debarre the band has a fresh modern sound but is firmly rooted in the style of the legendary Manouche Guitar Virtuoso Django Reinhardt. Their repertoire features many original arrangements of tunes by Django Reinhardt (Nuages, Swing 42, Douce Ambience) and jazz standards from the era (Honeysuckle Rose, Exactly Like You, Limehouse Blues) alongside contemporary jazz pieces from composers including Chick Corea (La Fiesta) and the Modern Jazz Quartet (Afternoon in Paris).
